Watch an actual session
Arrival, a forest fight, the village and cooking, a party and Rally, then the Sunken Crypt. Every terminal frame is real output from the current server build — nothing is mocked up. The player stays on this page until you press play.

Getting in
Three steps, then you are playing
The browser client and the Telnet client talk to the same server, so browser players and Telnet players meet in the same rooms. The browser is not a demo or a lite build.
Point any browser at play.fablerift.net. No account in advance.
Pick a name, a password and a colour scheme. Your character is saved automatically.
You start in the Mistwood with everyone else online. Type what you want to do.
What is in it
Seven regions that change with night and weather
Mistwood Marches, Pinewood Vale, Stormglass Coast, Frontier Steppe, Sunreach Desert, Ashlands and Skyreach — forest, coast, desert and frozen peak. Every statement on this page describes a shipped feature of the current build.
Gather, craft, cook
Chop wood, work the shared village workbench, and turn raw material into food and gear.
Trade with players
Trader dialogue, standing, and a daily contract. Player-to-player trade requests, not a bot shop.
Delve in a party
Dungeons built for a group — the Sunken Crypt is the first one most players walk into.
Five-chapter story
A written questline through the regions, not a fetch-quest treadmill.
Classic command feel
Typed commands, a region-grouped map, who for who is online. If you know MUDs, you already know the controls.
Open and yours
MIT-licensed server and clients. Run your own world and invite people to it.
Every week
The Rift Titan
Rises at World's End, Saturday 18:00 UTC and stays for up to two hours. Everyone online hears the announcement. 50 damage earns gold and the Titanbreaker title; the three highest damage contributors take a rare material. Type worldboss in game for the live fight.
Rises every Saturday18:00 UTC
Real captures
What the game actually looks like
Genuine terminal captures from two fresh test accounts on the current build — exact output and colors, nothing mocked up.

Before you click
Questions players ask
Do I have to install anything?
No. Open play.fablerift.net in any browser and go. There is a native desktop app in the repo if you prefer one-click reconnects, and plain Telnet works too.
Is it free?
Yes. The engine is MIT-licensed, the browser client costs nothing, and there is nothing to buy in the official world.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. The browser client is responsive and keeps your place when the connection drops, which is what a train journey needs.
I have never played a MUD. Will I be lost?
Type help at any time, and hint when you are stuck on a puzzle. The starter journey in the first room teaches the commands as you go.
Can I run my own world?
Yes. One install script sets up a server that publishes the same browser play page, updates itself nightly with rollback, and backs up player data every 15 minutes.
